Online Learning Opportunities for Students

Online learning is available to our high school students at no cost to students and their families. Online learning offers students a chance to excel at an advanced level in a subject area beyond what is offered in our school system. We also offer opportunities for students to choose online learning as a way to “catch up” on credits when they have fallen behind what they need to meet graduation requirements. Participation must be approved by the Principal in advance and courses must be facilitated by a teacher who holds a Virginia teaching license.

In order to enroll in an online/virtual course at Alleghany High School, the following expectations apply:

  •      Online courses are self-paced, which requires motivation and self-discipline.
  •      The entire course must be completed by the end of the school year.
  •      If the course has an EOC/SOL, students must take it upon completion of the course.
  •      Students who successfully complete an on-line course may be eligible to enroll in another course.

Online learning in Alleghany County Public Schools is offered through Virtual Virginia and APEX Learning. Please contact your child’s guidance counselor for specific courses and program requirements.  In addition, non-credit foreign language instruction is available at the elementary schools through Mango and Rosetta Stone.
