Superintendent’s Reports & Recommendations

Award of contract to renovate portion of old Central school building
Dr. Grimesey reported that the increased cost of renovating the front portion of the old Central school building was discussed during the joint work session between the School Board and the Board of Supervisors on October 27. Members of both boards agreed that the increased cost fell within the annual supplemental state funds that have resulted from the Clifton Forge reversion. He also reviewed information that had been shared by Alex Kessinger, Director of Administrative Services, during the September 19 School Board meeting. He said base bids for renovation of the structure had been received from Sams and Company, R.L. Johnston, Inc. and Sills Construction. He added that replacement of the roof would not be included in the base bid, but would be re-bid in an effort to obtain a lower cost. Dr. Grimesey concluded by recommending that the Board award the contract to Sams and Company as the lowest responsible bidder.
