Alleghany County Public Schools Wellness Policy Revision

RATIONALE
|
Alleghany County Schools would like to propose the adoption of the attached wellness policy. This policy being updated to include nutrition standards for LEAs required pursuant to VA Code 8VAC20-740 to include not only foods sold on school campus but offered for special events. In this policy AHPS is responsible for defining standards for foods provided, but not sold. This policy will be implemented on July 1, 2022 under the new Alleghany Highlands School District. The new wellness policy starting in July will be an intensive process to implement due to the changing regulations governing school nutrition. In implementing the new wellness policy, we will need to meet with multiple school organizations to get their recommendations for implementation. This Wellness Policy is based on the recommendations governed in Virginia Administrative Code Title 8, Chapter 740 Regulations Governing Nutritional Standards for Competitive Foods Available for Sale in the Public Schools.
