Mrs. Kimberly HaltermanMrs. Halterman was valedictorian of Alleghany High School’s Class of 1997.  She is the first superintendent of Alleghany County Public Schools to be a graduate from the division. Following graduation from Alleghany High School, she attended Roanoke College studying psychology, sociology, preschool through secondary education, and health care.  She earned a master's degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech and also possesses two graduate certificates from the University of Virginia, one in human resources leadership and one in health care administration. 

Mrs. Halterman has worked as a teacher in Botetourt County, as a long-serving building leader in Bedford County, and as a specialist with the Virginia Department of Education.  Her experience includes elementary and secondary principalships. She is passionate about all areas of PK-12 education with particular interests in exceptional education, career-technical education, and continuous improvement.  As a teacher, she worked primarily with kindergarten, first, and fifth grade students, and one of her greatest professional accomplishments was helping young children learn to read.  As a school administrator, she was able to see students finish strong and enter college, careers, and military, taking joy in their accomplishments. She is committed to the team in Alleghany County Public Schools and looking forward to working together to ensure we care for all our students well.

The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the Alleghany County School Board. Major duties of the superintendent include, but are not limited to, the following:

Acting as the educational leader of the school division
Enforcing school policy and regulations
Overseeing staff personnel management
Overseeing facility management
Directing community relations
Overseeing pupil personnel services
